Medical microneedling or Collagen Induction-Therapy (CIT) is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates the skin to repair and regenerate itself naturally and safely following controlled injury to the skin through the use of micro needles which penetrate the dermis. Collagen plays a vital role in the appearance of the skin. Loss of collagen is a natural part of aging and can also occur due to damage from acne, scaring or UV. Microneedling encourages the skin to produce more collagen-rich tissue which is more even in texture and tone thus improving the appearance of skin.

Microneedling (DermaPen) results are comparable to ablative treatments such as Laser, skin resurfacing and IPL but at a fraction of the cost.
It is normally recommended that you received a series of 3 microneedling treatments once every 6 weeks for acne scaring, pigmentation and fine lines. For clients seeking a skin boost, a micro-needling treatment every 4-6 months is advised.
Am I suitable for microneedling?
The best candidate for Microneedling is anyone who has not used isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past six months, does not have any open wounds, abrasions or cuts, has not had radiation skin treatment within the past 12 months and is not suffering from an active skin infection, herpes simplex at the treatment site or other skin condition. You will not be permitted to receive this treatment if you are pregnant nor nursing. For more information, please contact your aesthetic practitioner.
Unlike many other laser treatments for skin rejuvenation, micro-needling is safe for all skin types and tones because the treatment does not damage the epidermis. It is safe for treating sensitive or fragile areas, such as the skin on the neck and around the eyes. When performed by a professional, the risk of hyperpigmentation is mitigated.
How long will it take?
The entire treatment roughly takes 30-45 minutes to complete. However, the duration of your treatment will vary on a case-by-case basis depending on the area being treated.
Does it hurt?
People have different pain thresholds but numbing cream can be applied to reduce the discomfort. It can be uncomfortable but not painful.
How quickly will I notice the difference?
Many of our clients are surprised to discover you can see initial results immediately after treatment. As soon as the deepest layers of your skin is penetrated by the needles, “micro-wounds” are created. This triggers your body’s wound healing processes to heal your micro wounds immediately. However, the most dramatic results will not be visible until 4 weeks post treatment. It takes roughly this long for your body to create new, strong, healthy collagen.
During your initial consultation, we will advise you of when you can expect to see results based on the results you are trying to achieve. For treating burn scars, you may need to wait between six months and a year to achieve your desired results. For cellular turnover and tissue rejuvenation, you can see results in as little as two weeks.
Is there any downtime?
There is no downtime associated with micro-needling. However, you will need to take care to avoid sun damage for the first week post treatment. A little hyaluronic acid will go a long way in ensuring there is no inflammation after treatment. You will be provided with aftercare advise to ensure you are taking the necessary precautions.
